PRACTICAL SELF‑DEFENSE

Self-defense, not fighting. Learn to read a situation, stay calm, and get yourself and your family out safely.

Every Sunday at 11:15 AM with Coach Brian Fogg: Shaolin Kempo black belt (4 stripes), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt, and 20+ years of martial arts. Included with every group-class membership, and members’ friends always train free.

How class works

Coach Brian teaches self-defense, not fighting. Situational awareness comes first, and the mindset from his Kempo training is to “disengage, conserve your energy, find the easier path out.” Classes cycle through four blocks, then repeat so the skills stick:

  • Body awareness and falling safely

  • Stand-up self-defense: strikes, punches, and kicks

  • Stand-up grappling: grabs, throws, and takedowns

  • Ground work. In Brian’s words: “Most of them start standing, most of them end on the ground.”

As Brian’s Kempo instructor taught him: “Practice doesn’t make perfect, practice makes permanent.”
