1. Coach Feature: Coach Carly
If you've taken a class with Coach Carly, you already know she brings joy, positivity, thoughtful guidance, and accountability to each of her sessions.
Highlights from her Q&A session with Coach Greg:
Q: What does training mean to you, beyond fitness?
A: "I work out to make myself better, but not in just one realm. I carve out an hour to train, but also an hour to journal, or to meet a friend. It is so much more than 'go sweat and I will be good.'"
Q: As a teen, you moved up to a more competitive soccer club. What drove that?
A: "I love being surrounded by people who are better than me. Even the 18th slot on an 18-player roster, that is where I want to be, because it makes me better so much faster."
Q: How did you get into strength training?
A: "My mom saw a personal trainer twice a week and invited me along. We would get up at 6 a.m. before school. I was so inspired by how strong she was, and by the discipline of working on herself before her workday. I fell in love with it immediately."
Q: What keeps you hooked on lifting?
A: "I love the quantifiable progress. I am on the 20-pound dumbbells, and three weeks later I am on the 25s. You are literally getting stronger."
Q: Do you have a member moment that stuck with you?
A: "A couple weeks ago, on bar muscle-up day, George slowed down and did every single step, then flipped over the bar and got it on his first try. The grin and the energy that exploded out of him: sprinting laps, high-fiving everybody. We had a party."
Q: What would you say to someone nervous about their first class?
A: "I am so glad you are here. These workouts are for everyone. They can look intimidating, but I promise there are ways to scale so you feel challenged but comfortable. Showing up is the hardest part, and you are here. Let's go."
Q: Rapid fire: (a) coffee, (b) gym song, (c) post-workout meal, (d) favorite place?
A: "(a) Butterscotch latte. (b) Gym anthem right now is 'Kia Boys' by Prof. (c) Post-workout is a protein smoothie: food in face, fuel the machine. And (d) my favorite place is Hawaii, just outside Honolulu, where my family is from."

3. 📝We Want to Hear From You: Member Survey
Tectonic is built by an incredible community, and your feedback helps us keep growing and improving.
Whether you have been with us for years or just joined, we would love to hear about your experience: what we are doing well, and where we can do even better.
The survey takes just a few minutes, and your responses shape future programming, events, and the member experience. It is anonymous, so please be candid.
4. Whiteboard Fun - Would You Rather!?
Coach Erica conjured important questions for us to consider at the beginning of class, such as would you rather have tiny elephant ears or a peacock tail? 🤔
Not only critical to fitness outcomes, these questions build neural connections and strengthen synapses.
These pathways will no doubt be useful when riding a peacock to class or climbing into your treehouse.
5. First Ever: Tectonic Book Club
📖First meet-up: Monday, August 3rd, 6:00 PM at Oak Tree Station
Our first-ever Tectonic Book Club is here, led by Coach Carly, and the votes are in for the first book!
The Buried Giant by the Nobel Prize–winning British writer Kazuo Ishiguro
Those of us who haven't signed up yet can do so at the table at the gym.
Carly picked books "so there is something to interest everybody, and nobody is staring down a thousand pages."
6. 🏳️🌈Pride Block Party Recap
Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Tectonic booth at the Camas Pride Block Party, and a huge thank you to our incredible volunteers who made the day possible!
We had so much fun celebrating with our community and loved seeing so many people jump into our fitness challenges.
Competitors gave it their all in our 1-minute max meter row, max lunges, and max AbMat sit-up contests. Congratulations to all of our challenge winners, and thanks to everyone who participated and cheered each other on.
We are grateful to be part of such an inclusive, welcoming community and are already looking forward to next year!
